Anxiety Therapy
in San Diego, CA
Are You Feeling Consumed By Stress, Worry, Or Fear?
Do you tend to spend most of your day battling anxious thoughts and uncontrollable emotions?
Are you so often worried about the future that you’re having trouble living in the present?
Have you experienced any of the following negative patterns in your life:
Rumination, worry, or fear-based thinking?
Irritability, outbursts, or anger-driven emotions?
Disconnection, alienation, or social withdrawal?
Perhaps you know the source of your anxiety but have struggled to move past it without the proper outside support. Or maybe you’re able to envision the life you want to lead, but something you can’t quite pinpoint has been keeping you stuck.
Unmanaged Anxiety Can Keep You From Thriving Or Even Functioning
Anxiety can present itself in a variety of negative ways. You may be experiencing physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, digestive issues, fatigue, or difficulties eating or sleeping. Or perhaps your anxiety has caused you to withdraw, negatively impacting your closest relationships with family, friends, and co-workers.
You might feel anxious and exhausted on a regular basis, yet extra sleep doesn’t help. Perhaps you find yourself turning to substances for help with socializing, eating, or sleeping only to find that it makes things worse. You may have even forgotten what it’s like to feel good in your own body and mind.
Even though you may feel stuck, I’m here to tell you that therapy can offer you a way forward. At Deep Sea Psychology, I practice anxiety therapy as an effective way for you to feel seen and heard. Working together, I can help you learn how to cope with distressing feelings, and better understand your own emotions, your values, and, ultimately, yourself.
Most Of Us Deal With Anxiety At Some Point In Our Lives
Anxiety disorders are some of the most common mental health issues, affecting tens of millions of Americans. Our 21st century world provides many opportunities for worry and fear: the high cost of living and education, race-based discrimination and other inequalities, and various other political, economic, and environmental stressors. Indeed, it can be difficult not to feel anxious.
While anxiety affects so many of us, it also disproportionately impacts women. In fact, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), “women are more than twice as likely as men to develop an anxiety disorder in their lifetime” with under 37 percent of all people suffering from anxiety disorders receiving treatment (1).
Anxiety Can Become So Overwhelming That Outside Help Is Needed
Within this environment of excess anxiety, we are often lacking in sufficient support, which can put a lot of stress on our individual relationships. Often, taking care of ourselves comes after we’ve cared for everyone else. But severe anxiety may not just improve on its own, and sometimes treatment is needed and necessary.
Therapy can offer you professional support while helping you develop your larger sense of self. At Deep Sea Psychology, I want to help you improve your everyday state of mind and your relationships with those that matter to you so you can actively build and live a fulfilling life.
When you’re experiencing the incredibly uncomfortable and even debilitating symptoms of anxiety, it can be difficult to imagine or envision finding peace, comfort, or fulfillment ever again. However, this self-reinforcing mentality can keep you further stuck in a negative loop of your anxiety that can be difficult to escape.
Talk therapy has been proven to help with symptoms of anxiety—not by denying or avoiding it, but by moving through it. With the help and support of your therapist, you can finally take control of your anxiety by developing and practicing a combination of coping skills, psychoeducation, and evidence-based interventions.
An Eclectic, Evidence-Driven Approach To Anxiety Therapy
I incorporate a variety of therapeutic modalities in anxiety treatment, including:
Psychodynamic Therapy (PDT) – A form of psychotherapy that focuses on how the subconscious influences behavior, Psychodynamic Therapy can help facilitate the processing and working through of particularly difficult emotions related to your anxiety.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) – A form of therapy that focuses on emotional processing, EFT can help you better regulate your emotions and improve connection and communication within your relationships.
Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT) – An evidence-based therapeutic treatment, MBT can help bolster mentalization skills. These skills allow for a more flexible interpretation of your own and other’s emotions and behaviors, leading to healthier and more trusting relationships.
Anxiety can be the product of unexpressed or unarticulated feelings. Much of our work will be spent identifying patterns and understanding the origins of underlying conflicts—the things we might not see on the surface until we slow down and explore.
I want you to know that it’s well within your reach to live a life where you don’t feel constantly exhausted, worried, overworked, or underappreciated—and I can help you get to that place. I want to help you better understand your anxiety so that you can guide yourself toward a healthier, more fulfilling version of your own life.
Therapy Can Help You Take Control Of Your Anxiety
You May Still Have Some Questions About Anxiety Therapy…
I have a full schedule and don’t feel like I’ll have time to consistently attend sessions.
I understand, but I also encourage you to see therapy as an investment in yourself. Taking time for yourself is a great first step in figuring out your boundaries and asserting your needs to others. By taking this time, you are telling both yourself and others that your wellbeing matters.
I’m concerned that I’ll become overly dependent or reliant on therapy.
The goal of any good therapist is to set you up so you can succeed without therapy. It is well within your reach to find relief from constant rumination and anxiety while also learning that you have the inner resources to manage all of those emotions moving forward.
I’m worried that since I can’t pinpoint the cause of my anxiety, I won’t be able to find a solution.
It’s very normal to feel as though your anxiety isn’t rooted in anything in particular. However, people often find that when they start talking freely in therapy and identifying repetitive patterns, they are better able to understand and identify the root cause of their suffering.
